"You can’t become happy, you can only be happy"

I think it was Sam Harris that said this quote.
We’re all chasing for the next thing. Whether that be a job promotion, a higher profile client, or a faster, more expensive car. These things can undoubtedly make our life better and more comfortable, but at what cost?
The time we spend chasing these ideas and goals is less time spent with family, friends, and doing the things we love to do. We never have the time to slow down and appreciate the things that we do have.
By setting goal after goal, continually chasing the next thing, we fail to see what’s right in front of us.
In order to be happy, we must do just that, be happy. Once we start setting limitations for when we can or can’t be happy, we feel miserable. So be happy now, in the present moment.
Doing this practice will help in stressful situations too. The next time someone cuts you off on the road, be thankful that nobody got hurt.
Appreciate the things in your life, today, whether that be the fact that you’re alive in this moment, or that your cat didn’t pee on the carpet today.
