Remember your shortcomings too

Whenever I feel strong emotions about someone or find myself getting angry in a situation, I remind myself of this idea:

“Forgive people as much as you forgive yourself.”

We sometimes forget the times we have unintentionally failed people in the past.

All the times we were rude to our spouse because we had a long shift, forgot to buy milk, made a mess in the kitchen, or broke the kitchen sink accidentally by jumping on it (it was a long time ago).

Be patient with people. They are as flawed as you and they shouldn’t be instantly vilified for making a mistake.

It is rare that people try to hurt us intentionally, especially the ones that are closest to us.

As a side effect to exercising this idea, you may find yourself being more understanding and empathetic to the people around you.
