How to stop caring what other people think

We all wish we could have a bulletproof level of confidence, deflecting insults from haters like Captain America’s shield.
But the truth is, we can’t. We are highly social animals. We’re hard wired to care what other people think.
Back in the age of the hunter gatherer, loneliness meant death. We wouldn’t be able to provide for ourselves without the help of others. If we had upset the group in any way, we risked being thrown out of it.
That’s why we’re so afraid of standing up for ourselves and challenging people - we’re designed to be afraid of rejection.
So the question isn’t “how do we not care at all?”, but “how can we care less?”.
The answer is to pick a few people who’s opinion matters to us most, whether that be a spouse, friend or family member.
These are the people in your life that you can turn to when you need help. The people that want the best for you. The people that you trust and respect the most.
Everyone else in the world don’t matter. And they don’t matter because you have other people that matter to you.
Having people you can turn to gives you the freedom to ignore negativity. And hopefully you’ll find that you become less concerned about what other people think of you.
